Design and Technology
Problem solving - Pupils will develop their knowledge and understanding of products in meaningful contexts |
Deconstruct and design - There will be a focus on exploring and ‘deconstructing’ products and understanding their key components. Children will use their knowledge to create their own designs |
Make and evaluate - Children will learn and practise techniques and apply these when making their products. Pupils will be encouraged to take risks, evaluate and modify their ideas |
Cooking and Nutrition |
Life Skills - Children will begin to develop skills and techniques needed to prepare food and an early appreciation of learning to cook |
Origins - Children will understand where their food comes from and what constitutes a healthy, varied diet |
Children develop their knowledge and understanding of Design Technology and experience real-life, hands-on learning. They understand that perseverance is required to make a successful product, which can always be improved, echoing our REACH values. Children will know how DT relates to real-life and what their part in that could be, preparing them well for tomorrow’s world. Each unit of work allows children to follow the design process from beginning to end product, allowing them to appreciate the impact of Design Technology in our daily lives and the wider world.
