GENERAL INFORMATION
Chalkwell Hall Infant School shares a site with Chalkwell Hall Junior School on the corner of London Road and Leigh Road and opposite to Chalkwell Park. The school serves an area on either side of the Leigh/Westcliff boundary. The school was built in 1909 and comprises: a main school building with a central hall, six classrooms, library and a Computer Suite, three semi-permanent buildings and two classrooms attached to a separate dining hall and kitchen which it shares with the Junior School. The Infant and Junior Schools also share the playground area, which surrounds the two schools. We have 11 classes which accommodate no more than 30 children, with a yearly intake of 105 pupils.
THE SCHOOL DAY
The recommended teaching time for infant children is 21 hours per week. The hours spent on teaching at Chalkwell during the normal school week are 21 hrs. 15 mins. This time excludes the statutory act of collective worship, registration and lunch breaks.
The school day is from 8.50 a.m. to 11.50 a.m. (the playground is staffed from 8.35a.m.) and from 12.55 p.m. to 3.00 p.m. We encourage the children to be independent from the start delivering their own messages and money to the class teacher.
SCHOOL MEALS
Parents may opt for their children to have:
School Dinners
These are available for £2.00. Parents may pay half termly, weekly or daily. A two weekly menu may be obtained from the office. Healthy eating is encouraged and foods cooked in our kitchen are low in fat, low in salt and most of our meals are home-baked wherever possible.
Packed Lunches
We encourage healthy balanced packed lunches with no chocolate, sweets or fizzy drinks. Children may bring a cold drink in an unbreakable flask. Water is provided.
Home Dinners
Children are collected from the office at 11.50 a.m. and return no earlier than 12.50 p.m.
Snack
At morning break all children receive a portion of fruit or vegetable as part of the Government's initiative to encourage healthy eating.
All children may bring a bottle for water to be kept on their table for them to drink through the day. The container must have a sports top to avoid spillage. This can be filled at home or at school. We understand how important it is to drink plenty of water throughout the day.
